About the Canadian Lakes area
Canadian Lakes is ideally located. It is on the edge of the “snow belt” and has the feel of being far up North even though it is in central west Michigan. Because of the woods and rolling glacial terrain of the beautiful property, it is more closely identified with resorts much farther north. Drivable after work or in one comfortable trip, we are only two and one half hours from most Detroit suburbs.
In the winter, cross-country skiing is beautiful, and you are only 50 minutes from major snow skiing resorts. For concerts and sporting events, we are only 55 miles from downtown Grand Rapids, home of Van Andel Concert Arena and DeVos Hall, offering seasonal theatre and entertainment. Gaming at the Soaring Eagle Casino at Mt. Pleasant is only 35 miles from Canadian Lakes.
The arts and theatre are available in other prominent areas, such as the Midland Center for the Arts, a 55-mile trip. Education and cultural events are also held at two of our state’s finest universities, Ferris State University in Big Rapids and Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, located to the east and west of our community.
Shopping is excellent in and around our state’s second largest city, Grand Rapids, only 55 miles away. The smaller towns of Big Rapids (seventeen miles) and Mt. Pleasant (twenty-nine miles) also offer diversified shopping. Boutique craft and specialty shops dot the landscape in and around Canadian Lakes. The shopping center, Country Corners, right in the heart of Canadian Lakes, offers most of the necessity and specialty shops you would expect for convenience and service.
Groups of all types are organized at Canadian Lakes. You are able to pursue your interests and meet new people through these varied gatherings, as diverse as investment clubs and hiking clubs. You will find it easy to enlarge your circle of activities and acquaintances here at Canadian Lakes. Join us.
